Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring (gel-based for vibrant color)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup red velvet cake crumbs (from the cupcake centers)
  • 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 12 tbsp red food coloring (for a vibrant, glossy red hue)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 34 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 23 tbsp milk or heavy cream
  • A few drops of ivory or peach food coloring (adjust for a pale, skin-tone effect)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Candy fangs or small dots of red vegan gelatin (for puncture marks)
  • Red syrup or edible red gel (for 'blood' drips)
  • Straws (watch out – they are not eatable)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla and red food coloring.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add this mix to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk until combined. Stir in baking soda mixed with vinegar.
  4. Spoon the batter into muffin cups and bake for 18-20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool the cupcakes completely on a wire rack.
  5. Hollow out the centers of each cupcake and fill them with the creamy red velvet filling made from cake crumbs, sweetened condensed milk, melted butter, and additional red food coloring.
  6. Prepare the frosting by beating softened butter and gradually adding powdered sugar until smooth. Mix in milk or cream along with ivory or peach food coloring.
  7. Frost each cupcake smoothly and decorate with candy fangs and syrup drips to create an eerie effect.
