  • ½ cup ice water (for crust)
  • ¼ cup brown sugar (for toffee sauce)
  • ¼ cup heavy cream (for toffee sauce)
  • 4 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 egg (for custard)
  • 1 tbsp water (for custard)
  • 2 cups milk (for custard)
  • 3 egg yolks (for custard)
  • â…“ cup sugar (for custard)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (for custard)
  • pinch salt (for custard)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract (for custard)
  • 1 tbsp butter (for custard)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel and slice the apples; toss them with lemon juice.
  3. In a bowl, mix flour and salt; cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  4. Gradually add ice water until dough forms; chill briefly.
  5. Roll out dough, place in pie dish, and fill with spiced apples.
  6. Prepare toffee sauce by melting butter and brown sugar; stir in heavy cream until smooth.
  7. Pour warm toffee sauce over apple filling.
  8. Cover with another layer of crust or lattice strips; bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
