  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp red food coloring
  • ⅓ cup softened butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining it with warm buttermilk for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a bowl, mix together sugar, melted butter, egg, cocoa powder, red food coloring, and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually incorporate flour and salt into the wet mixture; knead until smooth and elastic. Let rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangle; spread softened butter on top, then sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  5. Roll tightly into a log and slice into 9 equal pieces; place in a greased baking dish.
  6. Allow to rise again for 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. For frosting: blend cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth; spread over warm rolls.
