  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 0.25 cups unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.75 cups brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cups mini chocolate chips (optional)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, yeast, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, whisk warmed milk, melted butter, egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract.
  2. Gradually combine wet and dry ingredients to form a soft dough.
  3. Knead on a floured surface until smooth (about 5 minutes). Place in an oiled bowl and let rise in a warm area until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  4. For the filling: mix softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and optional chocolate chips until well combined.
  5. Roll out dough into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick; spread filling evenly over it.
  6. Roll tightly into a log and slice into equal pieces (about 12).
  7. Place slices cut-side up in a greased dish; cover and let rise again for about 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. For the frosting: beat softened cream cheese and butter until smooth; gradually mix in powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
