  • 3 lbs boneless beef shoulder
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tsp molasses
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp Five Spice Powder
  • 1/2 tsp white pepper
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp honey

Instructions

  1. Cut the beef shoulder into two long strips against the grain.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together sugar, soy sauce, vinegar, hoisin sauce, molasses, salt, Five Spice Powder, white pepper, sesame oil, and honey until smooth.
  3. Rub marinade over beef strips thoroughly and cover; refrigerate overnight.
  4. Preheat oven or grill to 500°F (260°C). Place marinated beef on a lined rack.
  5. Roast for about 25 minutes; turn and baste with marinade mixed with honey every ten minutes until cooked through.
  6. Let rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
