Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups apples (cored, peeled, and chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (or coconut oil for a vegan option)
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar (firmly packed)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 14 tablespoons unsalted butter (cut into pieces)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the apple filling by melting unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add chopped apples, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, water, and salt. Cook until apples are tender.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine rolled oats, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix in cold butter until crumbly.
  3. Preheat the oven and grease your baking dish. Press half of the oatmeal mixture into the bottom of the dish as an even layer. Pour over the apple filling and sprinkle with remaining oatmeal mixture.
  4. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 50 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool before slicing.
